As many as 75% of people fear going to the dentist, and go without regular dental care because of this. Dr. Ajmo and his team are experienced in calming the fears of patients with dental anxiety or phobia. IV sedation is offered, allowing patients to undergo dental work without experiencing any pain or anxiety. Patients describe their experiences with Dr. Ajmo's sedation dentistry.
Dr. Ajmo: Fact is, approximately 75% of the population fear the dentist in one way or another. Amy Oakes: When we initially met Michelle, she called on the phone and she was crying on the phone telling me that she hadn't even called a dentist is over 10 years because fear had kept her away. Michelle: I had some really bad experiences when I was a young child and I was just terrified to go back to the dentist. Dr. Ajmo: Unfortunately what happens is when they don't get regular dental care, their dental problems can get relatively severe. What we offer here at PGA Dentistry is IV sedation. What IV sedation does is allows us to give medication directly through an IV line and we actually titrate the patient's level of sedation. What that means is we can adjust to give the patient a little bit more medicine if they need it. It allows us to keep a patient sedated through the whole procedure. And we can help them get through these procedures without any pain, without any anxiety, and they can undergo whatever dental procedures they need. Male Patient: The sedation was what brought me in and once I was here they explained the procedure and started the process. The next thing I know I woke up and the whole thing was over. Dr. Ajmo: They come here, they meet me and my team, who are all experts at taking care of patients who are fearful of the dentist. Michelle: I don't know how long it lasted, but I woke up and I was fine. I mean I was so thankful that I had it done and I would do it again if I had to. Dr. Ajmo: And we can give them a healthy smile that makes them look better, makes them feel better, gives them more self confidence, changes their relationships with their loved ones, and they go out in life with a whole new outlook. And really, for me and my team, to have the gift and the honor of doing this for these patients, is really just so rewarding, it's amazing.
